I love summer. Like LOOOOOOOVE it but my children broke me this week and for the first time in my life I am ready for them to go back to school something fierce. I need some “me” time!

I’ve had a few things on my mind lately about moving, making new friends, turning this house into a home, and taking more time to work on myself. This back to school time is also the perfect time for me to get back to myself and for you to get back to you.

So, here’s what I’m going to be working on this fall/winter:

1. Order.

I will continue purging our stuff. Most of it doesn’t spark joy, it takes up space, and I’d rather not have it in my life. Old papers, random things, clothes, etc. I read The Life-changing Magic of Tidying up a few months ago and am slowly working on paring down…except q-tips, she says “get rid of the hoard” and I say “try living with 3 kids.” 80,000 really is the right amount to have under my bathroom sink.

2. Friends.

We bought a house, we have neighbors who bought their houses, we have church friends who are permanent residents. We made a few friends in Sykesville but we only lived there for 10 months. Also, Sykesville was a rough chapter in my book. I learned a lot and have a few scars. I need to make some good girlfriends here. I’d also like to make some couple and family friends.

3. Home.

We downsized from 1400 square feet to 950 when we moved from Utah to Maryland. Then we upgraded to 2300. Our new home now has all these great spaces that are totally empty and boring. I would love to try my hand at building a few things and refurbishing some second-hand pieces.

We are also nearing a decade with children. This means all our furniture is like, “No. If I catch you even looking at me I will break.” Oh, did I mention our TV stopped working? In related news, so many people give their old TV’s away. We are the proud new owners of a very free, very heavy, TV. It is deeper than it is wide.

4. Exercise.

As for getting back to me, I am hoping to get back to yoga. I stopped my practice when I had my melanoma scar revised and a questionable spot removed, ahem, a year and a half ago. I’d love to go regularly to an actual class but I think I’ll start small (and free) with some videos I can do at home.

5. Work.

I am also working on my work-life balance. I’ve been organizing all my blogging/crafting/creating gear in one place and working on a plan to be more productive when I am working. I hope that will help me feel better about powering down the computer more often and baking a ton of bread, or whatever else I feel like doing that isn’t work!

  1. So many great things are happening for me at the moment so I’m just making sure I’m super organised and have stuff planned out!

  2. I have been having the same thoughts, and actually just told my husband, that once my son starts back to school, I am making time for me. True, I will still be homeschooling my 4 year old, but starting Monday morning, I will put on something other than yoga pants/shorts, I will dust off my P90X DVDS, I will start doing something with my hair, other than my standard top knot, and I might actually start putting on all the awesome cosmetics that I have collected! Yes, the 2015-16 school year, will also bring out a renewed mama!

  3. That is quite the list and I think that out of all of it, working on the home would be the most fun. I love DIY stuff and wish I had more time to do it.

  4. I love how you choose to get back to you! That is vital and yet sometimes being a mother it is difficult to get back to us. Your post is inspiring, thank you for sharing :)

  5. I’m also working on order/organization. When things get really busy, being organized is what helps keep us from getting completely stressed out. I’m also trying to help us not get SO busy, so we can enjoy plenty of family time.

  6. I think your plan sounds great. I feel that once we have our lives in order, everything else just seems to fall into place. Good for you.

  7. Hah! I’m with you on the q-tips. This fall I have all three kids in school, and i’m looking forward to doing some of the things I haven’t done in a very long time. Like deep clean. Declutter. Work out more. Do some service with my church. Read for a whole afternoon just because.

  9. Hey! Good luck with all this! It sounds like you still need to settle in. What I did when we moved was find a mom group in my area, but it sounds like your kids are all in school and most mom groups have little kids, but you never know, or maybe instead of a mom group, find a book club to join. I also work out with a friend of mine at the gym from mom’s club. I’m like you I love order and I actually love it when my son is in school, but I still have a three year old at home that takes up a lot of my time. But I’m trying to enjoy it while he still lets me cuddle with him. ;)

  11. Now that the kids are back in school it’s so much easier to get back to me. I worked out this morning and then took myself out to lunch and still got 5 posts done today! Woot.

  12. I have some similar plans once my preschoolers return to school. I am looking forward to get organized and having a little time to myself. The summer has been a blast but I’m anxious to get back to business!

  13. Sounds great! We just moved today and downsized PLUS purged so much! I’m really glad to be rid of everything junky.

  17. Working from home there has to be some organization to get everything done and not waste the day away. Cutting clutter is a biggie.

  18. I’ve been wanting to get back to yoga for so long! I keep putting it off even though I know it helps me be more productive and feel better.

  19. It has been time to get back to me for a while now. I am trying to get through some chronic pain issues so that I can get back to walking longer than the length of my house.

  20. I definitely need to get back to some me time. I have been missing it very much over the summer. This is a great way to get back to me.

  21. I am not looking forward to the kids going to school, but I need all of the above! Friends especially, I’ve been feeling so alone!

  22. I’m looking for work too. In fact, I’m really really looking for work. ;)

  24. I think every season is a time to re-evaluate and reflect on your goals and aspiration during the year. I am definitely trying to enhance my goals and dreams to be a better blogger…bought me a new camera lens to start and will be getting me a new laptop and other camera equipment have more high quality content on my site.
