back to school: 1st and 3rd

My darling children went back to school this week. I cried.

I felt so anxious for them. I wasn’t afraid for their safety, just worried that they might have butterflies or feel scared or lonely or nervous, especially Isca. I moved around a lot when I was a kid so I had more “first days” than most. I was always sick with nerves for weeks and I don’t want my kids to feel that way, because it sucks.

Anyway, they both came running off the bus with big smiles and Noa said, “Today was AWESOME!” They both loved it. Isca only felt scared once when she didn’t see Noa after school and she thought he might miss the bus home :)

Hollis told my mom that they were lost so she felt their absence but she didn’t mention going to find them so I think she was okay with having me and the t.v. all to herself. After we came in from the bus stop she said, “Mom? Wanna watch a show with me?!” She was really happy to get to choose whatever she wanted.

Ok. Here are the obligatory back to school pictures:

Now I will be singing myself “Sunrise, Sunset,” and weeping into my pillow, should you need me.
