Happy 4th of July

4th of July

We had another great Independence Day.  It was nice to have a long weekend to celebrate and stay up late, watching everyone’s fireworks.

My neighborhood, on the 4th of July, is one of my favorite things.  We have a big breakfast every year- pancakes, sausage, eggs, milk, juice, fruit.  We listen to someone sing the National Anthem.  We chat, wear red, white, and blue.

Then we put on our swim suits and meet on the hill at the corner of the elementary school field for an epic water slide.

Seriously.  Isn’t this one of the coolest ways to come together as a neighborhood?  I may or may not have tried to go down standing up (to show the 14 year old boys that a mother of 3 could keep up)…and 3 little kids didn’t wait and one of them hit me half way down so I fell, hard, and my shoulder maybe still hurts 5 days later.

On the 5th we went hiking at one of our favorite places- Silver Lake, up Big Cottonwood Canyon.  It’s perfect for young hikers- lots of boardwalk, it’s flat, the lake is small, there are bathrooms and picnic tables.  Also, we saw a moose.  NO LIE.

On the 6th we went to Roberts, Idaho for an annual family reunion…good old Roberts, population 590.
