Silver Lake, Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah

We went up Big Cottonwood Canyon to walk around Silver Lake over the weekend.  This place is perfect for families, lazy people, and Asian tourists…I never thought a random lake up the mountain would be such a busy place!  The weather is still doing that weird thing where some days are FREEZING and then the next it’s 70 and sunny so there was a bit of snow but the temps were nice and warm (Isca kept taking her coat off).

We had a great time exploring, collecting sticks, breaking the ice at the edge of the lake, throwing rocks, and chasing poor squirrels.  There are boardwalks around part of the lake then the rest is dirt but the trail is wide and well maintained.  You may find muddy parts so be warned if you decided to off-road with your stroller or a wheelchair.

The bathrooms and visitor center are closed for winter so keep that in mind if you take little ones or anyone, really, who can’t hold it.

There are several picnic tables if you want to bring a meal.  We already plan to go back in the spring and take up a lunch…we also won’t forget Hollis’ stroller, or a carrier for her at least :)  Here are the pictures…
