vinyl: before, during, and after

We had the vinyl in our kitchen and front entry replaced last week.  It was 7 years old, put in by the WORST floor person ever, and was the wrong color for the house (the previous owner made several awkward color choices, do you like the counters?)

We are not handy.  We have no power tool skills.  We called RC Willey.

Here are some pictures so you can see just how poorly the floor held up when the foundation shifted and what happens when you cut it too short and cover your mistake with a crappy strip of wood…

I heard, “Carry On My Wayward Son” at least 4 times a day, courtesy of this bad boy.

We chose to lay the new floor directly over the old one, using it as a sort of sub-floor.  We upgraded the quality to a thicker vinyl and we are all loving it.  No more ants coming up through the holes!  No more fear that a tree might start growing in the middle of my kitchen!
